As anyone with eczema knows, the condition goes far beyond scratching and dry patches of skin. Indeed, those who suffer from eczema may feel a significant decrease in their self-esteem, as they never know when a bout of skin flakiness and discomfort may arise. Additionally, they may feel incredible stress levels, exacerbating the problem due to stress-related eczema breakouts. This is why many Toronto residents are turning to chiropractic care to help achieve control of their eczema from the inside, rather than merely relying on topical creams.
Obviously, topical salves may soothe eczema, and may even shorten the lifespan of an eczema stretch. However, the ointments are merely addressing the symptoms, not the underlying reasons for the occurrence of eczema. A trained chiropractor, such as Dr. Gorchynski at Bayview Finch Chiropractic Clinic, may be able to use the activator method, a proven chiropractic medicine technique, to assist in reducing incidents of eczema on any part of the client’s body.
This system of gaining control of eczema through chiropractic care is not new. A 1999 case study, “Treatment of Acute Atopic Eczema by Chiropractic Care”, as outlined by authors Eldred, et al, and published in Australasian Chiropractic & Osteopathy indicated that eczema patients who underwent regular chiropractic treatments (once per week) had a marked reduction in their bouts with the condition. The seven-week study concluded that chiropractic medicine could not only be used to achieve fewer eczema breakouts, but also could reduce the psychological trauma of having eczema for sufferers.
Other research echoes these findings from the case study, and many chiropractors are using their skills to help individuals from all age groups, including very young children with eczema and other skin-related problems. Overall, this non-invasive method of helping to reduce the flair-ups, blotchiness and embarrassment of a common ailment that affects millions of people (especially in the colder weather, such as the climate of the greater Toronto area), may provide an excellent way to either minimize eczema, or help overcome it altogether.
