It’s frightening to think about how many people “treat” their health issues with drugs. While there are certain conditions where use of prescription and/or over-the-counter remedies are helpful, their use should only occur in very specific circumstances. Unfortunately, we have been trained in Toronto, and in our society, to feel completely comfortable putting medications into our bodies without a second thought. This is especially true with painkillers, which range from aspirin to opiates. Anyone who is tired of this very concerning and dangerous cycle of the overuse and abuse of pain pills should think about an alternative – going to a chiropractor.
How Chiropractic Treatment Can Help with Pain Management
Anyone who is dealing with chronic pain, degenerative disorders, injuries, spinal pain or migraines, knows that it can be difficult to manage the intensity of pain of these conditions. However, what we aren’t usually taught or aware of is that pain is a signal; it’s an alarm. If you were in a building and the fire alarm went off, would you simply put on earphones and mask the sound? That’s essentially what’s occurring when we take painkillers; we mask the pain, but ignore the fact that our body is telling us there’s an issue.
Chiropractors have been trained to listen to the pain rather than subdue it. Obviously, the end goal is for the pain to be lessened and eliminated, and without painkillers. By treating the pain as informative instead of destructive (it isn’t the pain that’s the problem, it’s what’s causing it!), a chiropractor can get to the source of the problem. Once there, adjustments can be made to the body to help the system heal itself, restore improved brain-body/body-brain communication, and naturally decrease the pain signals.
